Nathan Fertich was born on December 19, 18501, the son
of Adam Joseph Fertig/Fertich and Anna Bolich2,3.
He was born in Butler Township, Schuylkill County,
Pennsylvania2.
After the early death of his father, the
family moved to Barry Township3.
By 1880,
Nathan had relocated to
Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County and worked as a brakeman
on the railroad and resided as a border in the family of the railroad
engineer, Milton Stahl4
Nathan
was united in marriage with Effie P. Grubb on January 24, 1884, at the Zion Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Sunbury, Northumberland County5. Effie was born on
September 23, 18631. Nathan and Effie had two daughters
together: Blanch Francis and Harlan G.5,6,7.
The family attended the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1884 to 18925.
In 1900,
the family was recorded as renting a home at 229 Third Street in
Sunbury7. Nathan was employed as a railroad conductor
during this time period7,8. By 1910, Nathan and Effie
relocated to Pottsville Borough, Schuylkill County9.
The family rented an apartment at 447 East Market Street and Nathan
continued work as a conductor9.
Nathan passed away at the age of 65 on October 11, 1916, being a
resident of Wilkes Barre1. Effie then moved in with her
daughter, Blanch Frantz by 192010.
Effie died on May 11, 1920
at the age of 561. Nathan and Effie were both buried at the Pomfret Manor
Cemetery in Sunbury1.

From the lower cemetery
entrance off of Packer Street, drive about 100 feet and their will be a three way split in the road.
It will split to the left, slightly to the right and sharp to the right.
Take the split that is slightly to the right.
Drive about 200 feet and the road will split again. Take the left
split. Drive about 150 feet and take a left. Drive about 300 feet
and you will see on the right side, a very large tombstone with the name
"Packer" written on it. This tombstone will have a stone fence
around it. Stop your car about 10 feet before the opening in the
fence and look to your left. You will see a tombstone with the
name "Fertich" written on it about 100 feet from the road.
Nathan's family is buried around this tombstone. The
tombstones were photographed and transcribed on April 18, 2003.
