George Hunter Fertig was born on March 8, 1866, the youngest son of John Joseph Fertig and Catherine Welker^1,2,3. George was born in Penn's Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania⁴.

George passed away on July 22, 1870, at only four years old¹. He was buried next to his sister, Sarah Catherine, at the United Evangelical Church Cemetery in Kratzerville¹.
