was born on August 15, 1813 most
likely in Ohrnbach,
Bavaria, Germany1,2. She was the
only daughter of John Anthony
Fertig and
Mary Anna Nothburga
Schwaninger3,4.
Mary Anne departed from her hometown of Ohrnbach and immigrated to America
with her father's family in 18373. She changed the spelling of her
surname from
Förtig
to Fertig and settled in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania3,5,6,7.
Prior to 1843, Mary Anne became the
helpmeet and wife of
John Kramer,
who was
born on December 8, 1808, the son of John and Catharine Kramer4,5,6,7,8. John and Mary Anne
were blessed with eight children: Jacob, John,
Mary C., George,
Sophia J., Simon, Daniel, and Anna5,6,7.
The family settled in Lower
Augusta Township, Northumberland County, where John farmed for a
livelihood5,6,7.
John died on August 23, 1876, at the age of
67,
of chronic bowel disease8. Several years later, Mary Anne
passed away on January 29, 1880
at the age of 662. They
were both buried in the Malick's United Brethren Church Cemetery in Lower
Augusta Township2.

The tombstones are located at the
Malick's / Mount
Zion / Mile Run, United Brethren Church Cemetery in Lower Augusta
Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Directions: From
Sunbury, go about 5.5 miles south on State Route 147. Take a left unto
Hallowing Run Road (SR 4020). Go 4.9 miles and turn left unto
Victor Road (T-530). Go 0.8 miles and turn left unto Foye Road
(T-473). Go 1.2 miles and turn right unto Mile Run Road (T-420).
Go 0.3 miles and the cemetery will be on the left side of the road. The Kramer
tombstones are located towards the Mile Run Road side of the cemetery,
seven rows from the front of the cemetery (where the road forks).
The tombstones were photographed and transcribed on September 07, 2002.
